Now, what exactly is boudoir? Boudoir originated in the 1920’s and it was created by men, for men who wanted to know what women did alone in their dressing room. Talk about ick.
Today, we have taken it back and made it our own. Turning it into a tool we can use to unleash our power within and fall back in love with our bodies that society has deemed “un-ideal” … whatever that’s supposed to mean. Modern boudoir is for the every-day person. All bodies, all backgrounds and all stories. But today I’m here to talk to those of us who are making one of life’s biggest commitments, marriage.
Okay Brides… I know what you’re thinking… it could be along the lines of “I couldn’t do that.” Or “I’m not thin enough” or “I don’t know how to be sexy”. I’ve heard it all before. There are a million and one reasons NOT to do something. But what if I told you, that there’s something you can do for your wedding as a gift for your spouse that will not only stop them in their tracks but completely transform how you feel about yourself and give you the confidence you need to walk down the aisle without a sweat.
Booking a boudoir session for yourself can seem daunting. You may have been putting it off for quite some time, thinking that you’ll do it when you gain some confidence or lose a few pounds but gifting a boudoir session to your spouse-to-be gives you the perfect excuse to book yourself a session. They;re marrying you for a reason, and chances are they think you’re the most beautiful person they’ve ever laid eyes on. There’s a really good chance that they will LOVE this as a gift, and if not, you may need to re-think who you’re saying your “I do’s” with.
Depending on the artist you go with, you can purchase an album, some prints, wall art, some digital items & some have so more you can choose from. Any of these physical items make for an unforgettable gift for your spouse to be with some spicy images of you. This can be a great teaser for the wedding night or something they can admire for life.
It’s the gift that keeps on giving. Not only does it make a great gift for your spouse to be, a boudoir experience can show you a side to yourself that you may not have known ever existed. It can bring out a fierce goddess that’s always been there, or help you see your beauty in a way you never have before.
Boudoir gives you the opportunity to connect with a part of yourself that we often shove down and ignore. Connecting with that sensual and feminine energy is completely natural and can be very healing. We can often put that side to us aside to appear more professional or because we have to to survive, but embracing your femininity can actually change your mindset. To help you feel more confident in who you are meant to be. You’ll notice you’ll stop caring about what other people may or may not say about you and start doing things because they feel good to you.
The last thing I’d like to touch on about how doing a boudoir session before your wedding can do for you is it will help you feel more comfortable and confident in front of the camera. More likely than not, you’ll be spending the majority of your wedding day with your photographer or in front of their lens. As someone who has photographed hundreds of weddings, I can assure you that you’re not alone in feeling awkward in front of the camera. Most people do, heck, even I do. But by booking yourself a boudoir session before your wedding can help you get familiar with what angles look good, how to pose your body in a flattering way, and give you a little bit of experience so it doesn’t seem so daunting being the center of attention all day. And what will make all the difference is hiring the right photographer who understands posing and lighting for all body types and skin tones. A good photographer will give you tips and keep reminding you throughout your time together of these tips to help you get the best and most flattering results. Take notes and remember the tips your Boudoir photographer gave you for your wedding day and you’ll blow everyone away.
Now I get that this is not for everyone, and I may be a little biased but I strongly believe that booking a boudoir session before your wedding day is a great idea, not just as a gift for your soon to be spouse, but it will benefit you in ways you never thought possible. It’s time to step out of your comfort zone a little bit and try something new, you never know how fun and life changing it’ll be until you try it.
Thank you so much for reading <3
